The experience in the UK was overwhelming. There was a lot to look forward to and a lot to learn from. I however had a keen interest in retailers offering branded apparels as I wanted to establish a business in fashion industry back in Pakistan. Once I had completed my bachelors degree, I opted for a masters programme and got admission in MSc Marketing. That further enhanced my qualification and also gave me more time to learn as much as I could from the UK.

Deciding to go for a degree in a foreign institute has been the turning point of my career. I wanted to acquire knowledge and the skill to successfully manage a business which eventually led to the field of business studies in Northumbria University. Newcastle Business School did not disappoint me and very soon I realized that the education system over here forces you to work hard. It was not easy but I allocated a lot of time to my studies and emerged as a successful graduate. The studies had a practical approach rather than theoretical and from that I learned a lot.

I joined Northumbria University in September 2010 and to date I have completed my undergrad in Mass Communications & Business and have obtained a first class grade in my dissertation. I was named as one of the outstanding students of 2010/11 and was awarded a good amount of scholarship for my postgrad. I had an amazing year during my top up course and what fascinated me the most was the learning process. Currently I am doing my postgrad in Media Cultures and representing the International students of my school. Being an International Student Rep, I am obliged to interact with International students to solve any issues they face, get feedback and bring in improvements to make learning a better experience for myself and for the students of my school.  In addition, I have also been appointed as the Postgraduate Taught School Representative for the School of Arts and Social Sciences. My responsibility is to improve the experience of students across my School. I assist the smooth running of the Course Rep system, and act as a channel of communication between Course Reps in my School, the Students’ Union, my School’s management team and the University. What I like the most about Northumbria are the faculty members; they are friends, when you need help, mentors when you need guidance and the most knowledgeable people when you want to learn. If I were to describe my experience of Northumbria University  in three words, I would say it's inspiring, exciting and life-changing.
